Feature Maturity

This page describes the current maturity level of each Connectors feature, helping you make informed decisions about which features are suitable for your environment.

Maturity Levels

LevelMeaning
AlphaFeature is in early development. Behavior and APIs may change without notice. Not recommended for production workloads.
BetaFeature is functional and reasonably stable. Minor changes may occur with advance notice. Suitable for non-critical workloads.
GAFeature is stable and production-ready. APIs and behavior are stable across minor releases.
DeprecatedFeature is scheduled for removal. Existing workloads continue to function but new use is discouraged; plan a migration.

Admin Override Boundary

A subset of operator-managed resources is install-gated by feature — the operator decides per resource whether to apply it to the cluster based on the feature's maturity. Whether an admin can change that decision depends on the maturity tier:

  • Alpha and Beta features accept per-feature configuration via spec.installFlags on the cluster-singleton ConnectorsConfig, or scoped to a single component via the same field under spec.components.<name>.spec.installFlags (e.g. spec.components.harbor.spec.installFlags). The value's shape is interpreted per feature: for schema-version-aware features such as pipeline-integration the value is a "<=N" cap (see Cap the installed schema-version range).
  • GA features are locked by the operator. Any matching entry in installFlags is silently ignored, so promoting a feature from Beta to GA is never blocked by stale admin settings.
  • Deprecated features are also locked. Matching installFlags entries are ignored and the controlled resources stay skipped, so admins cannot accidentally re-enable a feature that is on its way out.

This is install-time gating only — runtime behavior is governed separately by Feature Flags. Common use cases include compatibility opt-outs such as Cap the installed schema-version range.

Feature Maturity Overview

Core Capabilities

Core CapabilitiesBeta

Core Capabilities covers the foundational framework that all Connector types rely on, including: lifecycle management (create, update, delete), forward and reverse proxy for secret-less tool access, and direct tool API access through the Connector Proxy.

Advanced Features

FeatureMaturityDescription
Pipeline Resource IntegrationAlphaProvides a standard abstraction over tool resources (such as repositories, images, and artifacts), enabling them to be discovered and used within pipeline orchestration.
Custom ConnectorClassAlphaExtend Connectors with support for new tool types by defining custom ConnectorClass resources.
Kubernetes Image Pull via ConnectorAlphaUse OCI or Harbor Connectors to pull images for Kubernetes clusters in secret-less mode. Gated by the enable-pod-image-pull-via-connector feature flag (default off).

Install Flag Catalog

The install flags currently exposed via spec.installFlags:

Install FlagControlsInstall-Gate MaturityDefault Behavior
pipeline-integrationWhich Pipeline Resource Integration ResourceInterface schema-versions are installedBetaInstall every schema-version; admin may cap via "<=N" (e.g. "<=2")

Install-Gate Maturity drives the override semantics in Admin Override Boundary and is independent of the controlled feature's user-visible maturity in the Advanced Features table above. The pipeline-integration gate sits at Beta (install-all by default, admin may cap) while Pipeline Resource Integration itself is still Alpha — the gate preserves legacy install behavior so the feature can stabilize without disrupting existing clusters.

For the value syntax of each flag, see Install Flags.
